 Now that I have a minimum of four expedition members I'm going to carry on developing things! This doesn't prevent other people from joining the expedition, though I still would prefer to cap it at 10. If you replied to the previous general interest/faq post, you've been invited to join the comm. If you haven't been able to yet, go do it as soon as you can!

But let's begin some small work towards getting the team together. If you know who you'd like to play, what's their occupation?

Jay is a Biologist and I think his particular field of study is life extension and stem cell research? But I could also do Forensic Pathologist. I haven't decided yet.

Alt may be best-- I don't know if lawyer would work in a strictly investigative capacity, there aren't many people to law at in Area X... that can absolutely be something she's done in the past, though. The anthropologist was previously an architect, and the psychologist was previously in management.

Given the lack of people to law at mentioned above Sherlock's official role here is less Consulting Detective and more Forensic Analyst I'd assume. His whole thing is knowing a little bit about absolutely everything though so I could probably wedge him wherever there's a gap.

I'm not sure between Optimus and Smokescreen, but you'll be getting a soldier either way. This sounds like something where having a military person on board would be appropriate??

The only difference is that Optimus would be a veteran and Smokescreen would be more of a noob. EDIT: or you know, the combination of skilled/enthusiastic that would allow him to be present but still sort of a dumbshit.

I definitely want to play Miss Rosa here, but her only real profession was 'Bank Robber' and after that it was 'Prisoner.' Which is maybe not the appropriate job position for someone working for a scary government organization.

Idk, I'm open to suggestions?

It's still possible for some of that to be in her background-- for example, there's a character in the books who's almost certainly been involved in ecoterrorism. The leader of this expedition, additionally, while she'd be aware of everyone's background, would still probably let a criminal past slide. It's ALSO possible that she could be a mole from yet another faction in the Reach, without much knowledge of her direct superiors. Shadowy government they may be, but lots of the time they don't have scruples.

If you're keeping the part where she has cancer, that could be of interest to the Reach. It would also be of interest to the expedition leader/the Botanist.

It's likely though that she'd still go by a different label/specialization. Something related to transportation, even though they'll be hiking most of the way there? Pilot?

Yes, cancer. Ovarian cancer, to be specific. Nasty stuff, she's probably only got a couple months to live.

So really, why not go on a murder expedition, right?

I'm definitely keeping the part where she has cancer. Her motivations for exploring Area X have a lot less to do with greed or scientific curiosity and a lot more to do with "it beats the hell out of dying in a bed somewhere."

I like the sound of Quartermaster? Also maybe Transport Operator, because that sounds like a bureaucratic way of saying 'Getaway Driver.'

I'm going to send you a link to a Google doc for a sort of app-through-roleplay-- the first interview with the expedition leader! I've been titling them by occupation but tbh you can figure out specifics in the process.

Related to the above: medic, mechanic, transport operator, quartermaster (strikes me as apropos somehow?), sailor/fisherman/diver would be EXTREMELY useful and likely someone local, etc.
